Literary hypertext theorists have traced the beginnings of hypertext in the nonlinear proto-hypertexts of medieval scripture and early scientific texts displaying numerous glosses and footnotes, thus affording multilinear reading trajectories. In its contemporary, medium-specific meaning, hypertext refers to interactive networks of digital documents and media connected by hyperlinks that give rise to multilinear readerly pathways through texts and, thus, highly versatile and personalized narrative and poetic experiences. ![]() Within literary studies, hypertext theory relates to literary in the sense of primarily narrative and poetic uses of hypertext as a composition technique and metatextual principle aided by specific technologies such as hypertext editing software and HTML (Hypertext Mark-Up Language). The largest informational hypertext network is the World Wide Web. Inside VICTORYG, there is the executable SSREAD.EXE, two DLLs (_ISREG32.DLL and WIDGETS.DLL), the Victory Garden Icon, an SSP.INI file (which contains information regarding only resolution, titlebar, colors, and such), three *.isu files (DelsL1, Delsl2, Delsl3), VG.SNI, VG.SSP, and _ a generic, medium-nonspecific sense, hypertext refers to a compositional format characterized by nodes, links, and networks that allow readers multiple choices and different pathways through textual and/or multimodal components. My ~/.wine/drive_c/Program\ Files has a subdirectory called "Eastgate" which contains another directory called "VICTORYG." My ~/.wine/drive_c just has "Program\ Files" and "windows" directories like usual. In case someone else out there is dorking on Victory Garden in the future, I'm going to provide the info you asked for, even though I think I've solved my problem. There appear to be some glitches to fix as far as SSREAD's execution, but I'll follow the appropriate steps of going back through the FAQ and whatnot since I've now gotten to a new step in the process of making this work. I guess the menu item in the Gnome menu is trying unsuccessfully to pass the VG.SSP file to SSREAD.EXE. I don't get any errors when I run "wine SSREAD.EXE from the commandline inside the VICTORYG directory SSREAD doesn't open the Victory Garden data file, but through process of elimination, I've figured out which file to open (VG.SSP). I'm not sure I've figured out what the problem is, but I have something like a solution. ![]() I'm somewhat desperate to make this work for a research paper I'm writing. This is what it looks like from the wine SETUP.EXEįixme:heap:RtlCompactHeap (0x7e0000, 0x0) adds an menu item for "Victory Garden" at Applications | Wine | Programs | Hypertexts, but when I try to run it, Storyspace says that it is missing a file: "Storyspace was unable to open file C:\PROG~FBUEastgateVICTORYGVG" so I think the installation is failing based on the errors above.Īnyone have any tips on this? I've tried messing with the configuration settings for which version of Windows Wine is acting like and it doesn't seem to make a difference. Eastgate hasn't been able to help me, although the person who contacted me back said that some people have successfully installed under Wine.Īt first, it looks like the install is working fine, a dialog box pops up that says something to the effect of "now installing icons" and then the installer quits with no notice. ![]() With an older version, I got a bunch of DDE errors, so I just bought a new version that gets a good deal further into the install process before popping up some problems. ![]() Unfortunately, I'm running into some installation problems (the installer is InstallShield-based). It is based on Eastgate's Storyspace environment. I've been trying to install the hypertext fiction Victory Garden by Stuart Moulthrop released by Eastgate Systems.
